Druids Temple and Leighton Reservoir
September 8 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm BST
The walk commences from the Swinton Bivouac and takes in Ilton Moor, Leighton Reservoir and the Druids Temple.
The walk is set over three hills which means there are several climbs and descents but the effort is rewarded with 360o views, glimpses of the Swinton follies and a curious portal to elsewhere.
Because of the nature of the terrain this is a fairly tough walk; we will do the major climb in the morning.
Weather in Yorkshire can be variable and most of the walk is in very open country. Please ensure you bring additional warm layers and waterproofs as well as drinks, water and sun proofing; good boots are essential as a number of the paths are uneven and may be slippery if the weather is wet.
Meeting point and time: Meet at 9:45 for a 10: 00 start at the Swinton Bivouac, High Knowle farm, High Knowle Lane, Ripon HG4 4JZ. (Grid ref: SE180787) The café is open for drinks, snacks and breakfast if required, the walk starts from the café gardens.
There is a £2 honesty box and the general parking is limited; if there are a few of us I will arrange a specific parking place with the café.
By car: Car sharing is recommended as the car park is not large; if you need, or can offer, a lift on a petrol-sharing basis; please let the leader know when booking. Sorry this walk is not accessible by public transport.
Lunch – You will need to bring a packed lunch, hot drink, cold drinks and snacks. There is an excellent café at the end of the walk
To book your place on this walk – Please contact the leader by close on 2nd September so that I can arrange parking if required.
